The exhibition "KONTEXTIL - Textile Impressionen auf Brandenburg" uses freely available data about the state of Brandenburg, which was woven into aesthetic data visualizations as part of a design course at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences. The aim was to explore the physical possibilities of data visualizations and to sound out different methods of representation.
Using embroidery machines, looms, by hand and various textile materials, topics from politics, the environment and society were implemented and new perspectives on Brandenburg were created. This ranges from political and social topics such as medical-care, real estate, federal elections and Sorbian culture to environmental issues such as light pollution, falling water levels. Moors, vineyards and illegal landfill sites in the state.
There is more and more freely available data that can in principle give us an insight into the connections between our living environments, but it is often abstract and only accessible to selected groups. As a society, we therefore need new forms of presentation in order to arouse interest in the added value of data. With the "KONTEXTIL" exhibition, we want to get you excited about freely available data and interesting topics in our federal state of Brandenburg.
Get to know Brandenburg from a new and textile perspective!
